Star Ferry

Star Ferry is the principle ferry service that carries passengers across between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The fleet of 12 double-deck ferries is owned by the Star Ferry Company, Ltd, which was founded in 1888. This ferry route has now become one of the icons of Hong Kong heritage with its long history and popularity in tourism.

The Star Ferry operates on four cross-harbor routes: between Wanchai and Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui and Central, Central and Hung Hom, and Hung Hom and Wanchai. Pay attention to the service times and ticket prices for they vary with the different routes. Even though there are now a couple ways to cross the harbor such as Mass Transit Railway and road tunnels, the Star Ferry still prevails as the most popular and inexpensive mode of crossing the harbor among local people and tourists.

The short 10-minute trip across Victoria Harbor on the Star Ferry provides you with a 360-angle spectacular view of both sides of Victoria Harbor as well as the opportunity to mix with and observe the locals. When the sun illuminates the skyscrapers, and apartment blocks along the Harbor in the daytime, views of the Hong Kong skyline are majestic. In the evening when gentle breeze cools down the temperature, the city glitters like a diamond, views become dramatic. Prepare your digital camera and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere to hear the waves.

The Star Ferry is the cheapest therapy in town for one of the best views in the world. Few people disembark the ferry with anything but the lightest of moods. You gotta love it!
