What is the best season for traveling Huangshan Mountain?

Huangshan Mountain is a year-round travel destination with its different beauty in different seasons.

In spring(Apr-Jun), Huangshan Mountain presents its growing vigor. The light-colored budding flowers, tender green of the branch shoots or grass scatter all over the mountain. Light rains fall through the spring and mist or thick fog often happens.

Tips for spring travel:

Antiskid light shoes, raincoat (avoid umbrella with metal material for the constant storm and wind), warm, coat and sunblock, hat, etc. are required.

In summer(Jul-Aug) , Huangshan mountain still maintains the cool weather(averagely less than 20ÂșC on the summit) due to its height and its dense plantation and constant rainfalls. And tourists swarm in to shelter from the summer heat.

Tips for summer travel:

  • Antiskid light shoes, raincoat (avoid umbrella with metal material for the constant storm and wind), light jacket and sunblock, hat, etc. are required.
  • Summer is peak travel time and better to make your hotel, ticket reservation in advance.

In autumn (Sep-Oct) , Huangshan Mountain is drenched in different colors. The clearest days in this season can unveil the truest beauty of the mount particular scene, thus this season is generally considered the best travel time.

Tips for autumn travel:

  • Autumn is also hot tour period in Huangshan, especially the one-week National Day Holiday. Accommodation and transfer should be arranged ahead of time to ensure the availability.
  • Temperature is in big difference between daytime and night.

In winter (Nov-Mar) , Huangshan Mountain carpeted with the white thick snow. Around December-February, the photographers flock to Huangshan to capture the snow scene. The cloud sea appears more frequent in winter than other seasons.

Tips for winter travel:

  • Bring the gloves to lessen the friction when grasping the iron fence chain along the mount.
  • Sunglasses are advised to protect your eyes from the light reflection of the snow.

Transportation:

How can I get to Huangshan?

There are flights connecting Huangshan and Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hefei. The Huangshan Airport is quite near from downtown of the city. Public bus No. 18 and 19 from 7:00am to 05:30pm or the airport taxi at about CNY15 can make the airport and downtown transfer.

If you mean to transfer to Huangshan scenic spot from the airport, you need to take the public bus or taxi to Tunxi Bus Station at first, and then take a bus for scenic area (CNY15 to 18). Another option is to directly take a taxi at about CNY 140.

Shopping:

Are there any local specialties in Huangshan?

Yes. The most noted local specialties in Huangshan are Maofeng tea leaves and She ink stone (a tool in traditional calligraphy) as well as Hui ink if you are interested in the traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. You can buy these specialties in Tunxi Old Street and Yanxi Street.

Early March is the early tea leave time and tea leave in this time worth purchasing if you are a tea fan and visit Huangshan during this time. Better go to the authorized tea shops or supermarkets to ensure the tea quality.

Cuisine:

Are there any Huangshan Mountain cuisine?

The authentic Huangshan Mountain cuisine actually assembles in the Huangshan city rather than that on the mountain.

Hui cuisine highlights the color, seasoning as well as original flavor of the ingredients. Famous local dishes including preserved Mandarin fish, fried preserved Tofu and various dessert. Yanxi Street, Tunxi Old Street are recommended for you to explore local delicious foods.

Tips:

Foods on Huangshan Mountain is much expensive than those at the foot of the mountain or in the city because all ingredients have to be transported from the city up to the mountain. Better have low expectation about the mountain food quantity and quality.

Accommodation:

Any suggestion for accommodation in Huangshan Mountain?

Huangshan Mountain accommodation can be divided into 3 types according to the location.

1. Tunxi (downtown of Huangshan city)

It is 60 km away from the Huangshan scenic area. Hotels Tunxi is much better in condition and options and price than that on the top of the Huangshan Mountain. And room fee is also more reasonable as well. The tourists that value the hotel conditions can choose to stay in this area.

2. Tangkou (foot of Huangshan Mountain)

You can also stay in Tangkou where is just at the foot of Huangshan Mountain. The hotels at the mountain foot are relatively cheaper than that on the peak. The tourists that stress on the hotel conditions and spot convenience can choose to stay in this area.

3. Huangshan Mountain Summit

Price of peak hotels is as high as its height for the limited numbers of the hotels up there. And facility of hotel can not compare with that in Tunxi city. The tourists that want to seize the moment of magnificent sunrise scene can consider to stay up the mountain. Baiyun Hotel, Shilin Hotel, Beihai Hotel and Xihai hotel are noted fot their nice service and convenient location to the spots. Reservation is advised to make as early as possible in the peak season.
