Chongqing Yangtze-river Cable Car to Reopen as a Scenic Spot

Published on December 18, 2013 by Barbara

Chongqing Yangtze-river cable car is scheduled to reopen as a scenic spot on 20th December, 2013. Since it was put into service in 1987, the cable car has served as one of main transportations to cross the river for local people. And yet the increase of the bridges and the advent of the rail transits in the past years have diminished the cable car's transportation function. Considering the rich history and the great views the cable car boasts, the local government has decided to develop it into a 3A scenic spot while still retains its transportation function.

The cable car, with a length of 1,116 meters, stretches from the Xinhua Street (Yuzhong district) to Shangxin Street (Nanan district). A single-way ride will take about 4 minutes and RMB 5/person. The open time will be 7 am-10 pm while the 7 pm-10 pm will be night sightseeing hours when the cable car can cater to the requirements of the tourists like flexibly adjusting the speed and the pause time over the river.
