Dukezong Old Town will start to charge every visitor RMB 30 as the maintenance fee. The fee will be applied to restoration and protection of the old town important architecture and the local unique Tibetan culture. The old town, a necessary pass on the ancient tea horse road, is known for its well-maintained Tibetan-style dwellings, prayer halls and pagodas and winding lanes.
