Disputes Over "Obesity Tax"

Published on April 27, 2009 by Irene

Obesity Tax may be coming

Ryanair Holdings has been racking its brains to save the cost by removing the boarding counter, charging passengers for their plane toilet use, and now even charging the overweight guests for "obesity tax".

Net citizen support

Ryanair Holdings has put forward many cost-saving measures on the internet like selling toilet sheet, charging guests for their use of smoking room and the company's websites besides the obesity tax. More than 100,000 passengers have taken part in the vote to choose the best measure. Nearly 1/3 has voted for obesity tax charge. The standard of obesity is weight, waistline, BMI, or if body sides of the passenger touch the armrests, he/she will be charged.

Experts oppose

Though it's highly supported on the internet, nutritionists and obesity experts still express their opposite opinions that it's "infeasible and discriminatory."
