Songzanlin Monastery Scenic Zone will be opened to the public on April 12, 2009 after 2 years reconstruction that has cost about 183 million. Infrastructure construction was finished covering water supply and drainage engineering, lake restored program, road program, and wall program and square and so on. The temple, Xikang main hall, the temple wall and path and etc. were also restored.
Songzanlin Monastery, also known as Guihua Monastery was built in 1679, is the Tibetan Buddhist monastery famous in its scale and special character in Yunnan. Located near Shangri -La County and at the foot of Foping Mountain, the monastery houses more than 900 monks and enjoys the reputation of "Little Potala Palace".
