Summer Palace Temple Fair to be held in Chinese New Year

Published on January 25, 2011 by Lori

To prepare for the temple fair in Chinese Spring Festival (from 3rd to 17th Feb.) , Summer Palace Suzhou Street (North Gate) has recently been dressed up with the traditional decorations like red lanterns, Chinese knots, spring festival couplets, paper cuts, etc.

This 300-meter riverside street, initiated by Emperor Qianlong (AD 1736-1795), resembled a common shopping market filled with the teahouses, restaurants, accessories stores, pawnshops and stationery stores for the imperial families to experience the common's life.

In this revived temple fair, the tourists can experience the past imperial life and the New Year lively atmosphere in a wealth of traditional folk performances, snacks and souvenirs, etc.
