Turpan Airport was officially put into service on July 9. Turpan Airport, 10 km far from Turpan downtown, is only 20 minutes flight transfer from the 160-km-away Urumqi.
Since Turpan is mostly fair in winter; the opening of Turpan Airport also can serve as an alternate airport for the Urumqi Airport under extreme winter weather circumstance.
