When is the Shanghai World Expo in 2010?
The expo will start from May 1s to October 31st, 2010, lasting 184 days. The expo period has covered Shanghai's nice travel seasons--spring, summer and autumn.
What is the expo ticket made of?

How many types of tickets does the Expo have?
There are two general categories and 9 types of the tickets the tourist can choose—individual ticket and the group tickets. Individual tickets include Peak Day Admission and Standard Day Admission. The former are divided into Peak Day Single Day Admission and Peak Day Special Admission. And the latter include Standard Day Single Day Admission, Standard Day Special Admission, 3 Day Admission, 7 Day Admission and Evening Admission. Group tickets fall into Group Admission and Student Group Admission.
What are Peak Day and Standard Day in the individual tickets?
Peak day covers 17 days consisting of Chinese Labor Day holiday (May 1st–3rd), National Day holiday (October 1st–7th) and the last week prior to the closing (October 25th–31st). The rest of 167 days are the standard day.
Is the Special Day Admission only good on the special days?
Certainly not. If the Special Day Admission has not been used on the special date noted on the ticket, it is still good in any standard day.
Is date of visit specified on the expo tickets?
Special Day Admission is the only ticket specified with the date of visit.
Who is eligible to purchase the Special Admission?
Five special people can enjoy the Special Admission policy. They are respectively physically-challenged people, people born in or before 1950, students with valid IDs, children above 1.2m (4feet) in height, Chinese enlisted persons, etc. And relevant certificates are needed in the purchase and expo site entry.
Who is eligible to enjoy the free admission?
The children under 1.2 m with the adult can enter the expo without a ticket.
Does an expo ticket allow multi-entries?
No, it doesn't. An expo ticket is only good for one entry for a day.
Does 3 day admission or 7 day admission allow for multi-entries?
All admissions but Peak Day Admission allow one entry per day of any 3 or 7 days during the expo session.
Can others use the 3 day admission or 7 day admission besides its owner?
Yes, they can. The real-name system has not been applied in the 3 day admission or 7 day admission. The ticket can be used within its time limits, either by its owner or not.
Are there family tickets to the expo?
No, there aren't. The Shanghai World Expo hasn't issued the family tickets. But the expo plans to promote the family visit and provide the family unit with nice service to facilitate their tour.
Are all the venues accessible with an expo ticket?
Yes, all the venues can be accessed to by the presence of an expo ticket.
.Has the ticket covered the dining expenses in the expo site?
No, it hasn't. In the expo site, the visitors need to pay for their own dining bill.
How many sale phases of the expo tickets are there and who are target customers in each phase?
The expo tickets can be purchased either during the expo session or in advance. There are in all 3 presale phases when different discounts are available in ticket purchase.
- The First Pre-sale Phase (Mar. 27-- Jun. 30, 2009): During this phase, Peak Day Single Day Admission and Standard Day Single Day Admission tickets are available for groups as organizations, institutions and enterprises, etc.
- The Second Pre-sale Phase (Jul. 1, 2009--Dec. 31, 2009): During this phase, individual and groups can purchase Peak Day Single Day Admission and Standard Day Single Day Admission tickets.
- The Third Pre-sale Phase(Jan. 12..9,2009--Apr. 30, 2010): During this phase, individual and groups can purchase Peak Day Single Day Admission, Peak Day Special Admission, Standard Day Single Day Admission, Standard Day Special Admission, 3 Day Admission and 7 Day Admission tickets.
- Expo Session Sales (May 1, 2009--Oct. 31, 2010): During this phase, individual and groups can purchase Peak Day Single Day Admission, Peak Day Special Admission, Standard Day Single Day Admission, Standard Day Special Admission, 3 Day Admission, 7 Day Admission and Evening Admission tickets.
How much is the Expo tickets of each sale phase?
The benchmark price for the Shanghai World Expo ticket is 160RMB. The specific ticket prices of each phase are listed in the followings:

When is Special Admission, 3 Day Admission, 7 Day Admission and Evening Admission available?
- Peak Day Single Day Admission goes on sale since July 1st, 2009 to the date on the ticket.
- Peak Day Special Admission goes on sale since January 1st, 2010 to the date on the ticket.
- Standard Day Single Day Admission goes on sale since July 1st, 2009 to the end of the expo session.
- Standard Day Special Admission goes on sale since January 1st, 2010 to the end of the expo session.
- 3 Day Admission goes on sale since January 1st, 2010 to the end of the expo session.
- 7 Day Admission goes on sale since January 1st, 2010 to the end of the expo session.
- Evening Admission is available from May 1st in the expo site.
Is there a minimum number of members when purchasing the group tickets?
Group Admission is sold for the group of no less than 15 visitors through the authorized travel agents.
Student Group Admission is sold for the group of more than 30 students through the authorized travel agents or through the educational institutes.
How to buy the Expo tickets?
- 1) From July 1st, 2009, the public can purchase tickets by accessing the website, the outlets or calling the assigned sale agents--China Mobile, China Telecom, China Post and the Bank of Communications--across the country.
- 2) From May 1st, 2010, the public can purchase the tickets on the spot in the expo sale lots or on the ticket machines.
- 3) Join in the expo tour package of the assigned travel agencies.
- 4) Evening Admission can only be purchased on the spot in the sale lots of expo site.
What is Evening Admission and how much does it cost?
It is the ticket for the evening visitors. From May 1st, 2010(except for the Peak Day), the Evening Admission is sold at 90 RMB at the expo site. The daytime pavilions are also available from 5pm-12pm in one entry on the day of admission.
What is the first group of the oversea agents?

Does purchase of Special Day Admission need to be processed by the draw?
No, it doesn't. Special Day Admission is the specific ticket that is applied to regulating the predicted visitor flow in peak day via limiting the visiting days and ticket sales, raising the ticket price, etc. It goes on sale from July 7th, 2009 and early purchase action is needed for its limited number.
Is there a discount for the ticket reservation?
Yes, there is. Shanghai expo promotes the ticket reservation and the purchaser can enjoy the corresponding discount.
Can the ticket be exchanged after the purchase?
The ticket can't be exchanged except for the following exceptions:
- If organizer cancels the expo, the purchaser can present ticket and get the actual refund of the assigned sale channels.
- If visitor can't enter the expo site for the ticket damage, an exchange is available after the ticket exchange application in the expo lots during the session and ticket validity examination.
Is the ticket compensation available for the ticket loss?
The ticket compensation is unavailable. As the Shanghai expo ticket is the real-name system, no compensation is available for the loss. Thus it is advised to keep the ticket properly.
If a student wants to tour the expo on October 1st after his July graduation, is his October Peak Day Admission for student still valid?
In this case, the student ticket on October 1st isn't good anymore for the valid student certificate is needed when the visitor enters the expo site with the student ticket.
How are the tickets of expo opening and the closing ceremony sold?
The opening and the losing ceremony tickets of the expo are respectively displayed on 30th, April and 31st, October, 2010. As the ceremony activities are still under the preparation, the ticket sale has not been officially released.
Facilities of Shanghai Expo 2010
What are the dining facilities in the expo site like?
In the expo site, the 43 buildings in five districts of the dining area have approximately covered 100,000 square meters. VIP restaurants, banquet restaurants, fast-food canteens, snack bars, drink bar, Muslims canteens and the like all can be found here to cater to different tastes of the worldwide visitors. The fast foods and casual dining dominates the dining style and the exotic snacks in the exhibition area of different nations demonstrate their catering cultures.
Will it be a big challenge for over 70,000,000 visitors to use the restrooms?
The visitor can tour the expo at ease. More than 2,000 mobile toilets will move with the visitor throngs to avoid the scene of hastily running around or long queuing for the restrooms.
What are the main venues in the expo site?
The main expo venues consist of the Theme Pavilion, China Pavilion, Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA), Foreign National Pavilion, International Organizations Pavilions, Corporate Pavilions and World EXPO Museum.
What is the visit time of the expo sites and pavilions?
Shanghai expo sites and pavilions open to the public all week during the expo session.
The expo sites open from 9:00 am--12:00 pm. The pavilions open from 9:30 am--10:30 pm
The business facilities of the Shanghai expo public area open from 9:00a.m.--12:p.m.
The Evening visiting time lasts from 5:00 pm--12:00 pm.
During the expo session, are the private vehicles allowed to reach expo sites?
The metro lines will carry about 50% of all visitors. Ground lines will take care of about 35 % of all travelers. And the rest of visitors will be transferred by the water transportations. The nearby districts of the expo site only save for the travel coaches and the transfer buses.
How can the visitor get to the expo site?
By subway
Line No 4, 6, 7 and 8 will serve Expo 2010 directly. Line NO.4 is a loop line, so it will cross the river twice. Together with NO.13--the trunk line within the Expo site, the five lines form the major framework of Expo 2010 railway transportation service network. The nearby districts of the expo site only save for the travel coach and transfer bus.
By Bus
Besides the regular daily public transportation system, the special Expo lines linking to major crowd gathering spots in the Expo site, the city and suburbs will be opened.
By Water Bus
Outside the Expo seven Water Gates provide transportation, including Ningguo Road, Northern Bund, Shiliupu, Qichangzhan, Lujiazui, Dongchang Road and Nanpu Station. After completing the security and ticket check at the Water Gates, the passengers will enter the Expo directly via Water Buses.
Within the Expo three Water Gates provide transportation, two in Pudong and one in Puxi, linking both sides of the river and provides transportation.
Are there any Shanghai attractions worthy of a visit besides the expo site?
The World Financial Center--The highest building provides sightseeing, restaurant, shopping, and entertainment.
The Bund--One of the Shanghai architectural symbols.
Nanjing Road--A paradise of high-level shopping for travelers in Shanghai.
Yuyuan Garden--A famous garden featuring southern gardens of China.
Jade Buddha Temple--One of Shanghais Buddhist temples that is famous for its ancient sculptures, rare paintings and Buddhist scripture.
Xintiandi Area--A shopping, dining and entertainment area of Shanghai.
Zhouzhuang and Xitang--the water towns near Shanghai like or the nearby nice cities--Hangzhou and Suzhou are convenient in transportations and worth of a side trip.
