Chinese High-speed Railways to be pragmatically Operated

Published on May 06, 2011 by Lori

The Chinese high-speed railways have been greatly expanding in recent years. And yet the high fare, limited passengers, high maintenance fee and great investment pressure are requiring widening the railway usage in order to more efficiently serve more parts of the society. Therefore, relevant government plans to apply 3 mixed railway operation modes from 1st, July, 2011.

Firstly, the 300 km/h high-speed railway will be shared and run by the 300 km/h through fast trains and 200-250 km/h stopover trains (the high-speed railways were originally served only for the designed through high-speed trains). Through and stopover train tickets will be sold at different prices.

Secondly, the 200-250 km/h railway will widen its use to serve the fast trains of 200-250 km/h and the common trains of 120-160 km/h. Tickets to the fast train and common train are available.

Thirdly, the beyond 200 km/h railway will open for both of the common trains and the freight trains.
