Tree-shaped Lightning Rods installed in Badaling Great Wall

Published on August 20, 2014 by Barbara

Badaling, the most visited section of Great Wall in China, have installed tree-shaped lightning rods. The rods, each worthy of RMB 200, 000, are actually hollow steel tubes and are designed in the shape of pine tree to fit the original Great Wall surroundings. 7 trees have been installed in south Great Wall and 5 more lightning rods will be installed in north Great Wall by the end of the year.

Great Wall was built on mountain ridge, so it tends to be easily hit by lightning strike, especially when tourists stand on the Great Wall.
